Introduction
An alias is a different section or row name that marketplaces show for your listing, for example when a marketplace names a section differently from your tickets. You can set an alias for all marketplaces, or only for the marketplaces you pick. Aliases are set in the Edit listing window. This guide shows you how to add aliases, check what each marketplace will show, change or remove them later, and replace them on several listings at once.
The numbers in brackets, like (1), match the numbered markers in the screenshots.
Step 1: Open Edit Listing
On Inventory, click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the far right of the listing's row (1) and choose Edit listing (2) at the top of the menu.
Step 2: Open Section / Row Alias
In the Edit listing window, click Section / row alias (1). While the listing has no aliases, it reads No alias.
Step 3: Add an Alias for All Marketplaces
The section opens with one rule ready to fill in.
- Under Marketplaces, leave All marketplaces (1) to use the alias everywhere. To use it only on some marketplaces, click the box and tick those marketplaces instead.
- Type the alias in Section (2), Row (3) or both. Here, the section alias is SEC105. A blank field keeps the listing's own section or row.
Each marketplace shows (4) lists the section and row each marketplace will show. Here, every marketplace shows SEC105 · Row 8.
Step 4: Add a Different Alias for Other Marketplaces
- Click Different alias for other marketplaces. A new rule appears below the first one.
- Click the new rule's Marketplaces box and tick each marketplace the rule is for, here StubHub (1).
- Click outside the list, or press Esc, to close it.
All marketplaces is greyed out (2) because the first rule already covers all marketplaces. A marketplace that's already in another rule is greyed out too, so each marketplace can be in only one rule.
⚠️Important: AXS, SI Tickets and TicketNetwork can't take aliases, so they aren't in the list or in Each marketplace shows. They show the listing's own section and row.
Step 5: Fill In the Rule, Check the Preview and Save
Type the alias for those marketplaces, here H in Row (1). Then check Each marketplace shows:
- StubHub (2) now shows SEC105 · Row H. Its rule has no section, so it keeps the SEC105 section alias from the All marketplaces rule.
- The other marketplaces, such as Ticketmaster (3), still show SEC105 · Row 8.
When the preview looks right, click Save changes (4).
Step 6: Check the Confirmation
A Marketplace overrides saved message appears at the top of the page (1).
⚠️Important: Changes can take a few minutes to show on the marketplaces.
Step 7: Change or Remove Aliases Later
Open Edit listing again (Step 1) and click Section / row alias. It now shows how many rules the listing has (1), here 2 rules, and your saved aliases are filled in, such as SEC105 (2).
- To change an alias, edit the text in its box, or change the marketplaces in its Marketplaces box.
- To remove a rule, click the red bin next to it (3).
- To remove all aliases, click the red bin on every rule. After you save, the section reads No alias again.
Then click Save changes.
Step 8: See Your Alias Changes in the Listing's History
Every alias change is logged. Click ⋮ on the listing and choose View History. The listing's history opens on Activity in a new tab, with a Section/Row Alias Set row for your change (1). Click the row to open its details. Under Change, you see the aliases that were set (2), here All marketplaces: Section SEC105; StubHub: Row H.
Tip: For more about a listing's history, see How to See the Full History of One Listing and How to See the Details of an Activity.
Step 9: Replace Aliases on Several Listings at Once
- On Inventory, tick the box at the left of each listing and click Edit listing in the bulk bar. The Edit listings window opens.
- Click Section / row alias. The section opens with the aliases that all the selected listings share. A rule that only some of them have isn't filled in. Here, only the listing you set up in Steps 3 to 5 has aliases, so the section opens with one empty rule.
- Set up the rules (1) the same way as in Steps 3 to 5, here SEC105 in Section for All marketplaces. The section now reads Overwrites 2 listings (2). The number matches how many listings you selected. If you change your mind, click Leave unchanged (3). The section reads Unchanged again, and the listings keep their own aliases.
- Click Apply to 2 listings (4). A Marketplace overrides saved on 2 listings. message confirms the change.
⚠️Important: When you apply, the rules shown here replace all the aliases on every selected listing. A rule that only some of the listings had is removed, so add it again if it should stay. Here, the listing you set up in Steps 3 to 5 loses its StubHub rule (Row H).
⚠️Important: Leave Marketplace distribution on Unchanged in this step. It doesn't show what the listings share: it opens with every marketplace that's off on any of the selected listings switched off, and a change there sets that whole list on all of them.
Tip: Aliases can be replaced on one account's listings at a time. The Edit listings window doesn't show the Each marketplace shows preview, so to check the result, open Edit listing on one of the listings (Step 7).
Tip: For more about selecting listings and the Edit listings window, see How to Select Several Listings and Use Bulk Actions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an alias change my listing in SeatHQ?
No. Only the marketplaces show the alias. In Inventory, the SECTION column still shows the listing's own section and row. To change those, see How to Edit a Listing's Section, Row, Seating Type or Split Rule.
Which marketplaces can't take aliases?
AXS, SI Tickets and TicketNetwork. They aren't listed in Section / row alias, and they show the listing's own section and row.
What happens when a rule leaves Section or Row blank?
A rule for the marketplaces you picked takes over one field at a time. If its Section or Row is blank, those marketplaces use the All marketplaces alias for that field. If there's no All marketplaces alias, they show the listing's own section or row.
Why does a marketplace say (not listed) in the preview?
The listing doesn't go to that marketplace, so the alias isn't used there (see How to Choose Which Marketplaces a Listing Goes To).
Why is Save changes greyed out?
- Nothing has changed yet.
- A rule has no marketplace picked. Its Marketplaces box turns red and reads Choose marketplaces.
- An alias contains [ or ], or is longer than 100 characters.
I used to set aliases from the ⋮ menu. Where did that go?
Aliases are now set in Edit listing > Section / row alias, as shown in this guide. You don't need to turn anything on in Settings.
Can I also set a different price on some marketplaces?
Yes. Use Price overrides in the same window (see How to Set Price Overrides for Different Marketplaces).
